We have been made aware of over 1,000 people receiving letters that their licenses are invalidated due to improper paperwork and license tests. The Hunting Club of Australia was listed as one of 20 clubs able to re-test people within the next 14 days (as of 19th November).
We are receiving a large number of calls to assist with this and are doing our best to help those affected. The most urgent part of this as we understand it is to provide a legitimate ‘genuine purpose’. We take the view that the best way to do this is to obtain a DPI R-License enabling you to hunt in all designated NSW State Forests.
Based on this our advice is:
Join the Hunting Club of Australia (or other AHO) - Join
Complete your R-License training online - Hunter Ed
Submit your Certificate of Completion (from Hunter Ed) and DPI Reference Letter (from the club) to your R-License Application - Department of Primary Industries
Once completed, follow the instructions from the letter you received from the NSW Police Firearms Registry. Go to the MyServiceNSW website and select ‘Add a new genuine reason and/or Category’ to your license.
We believe this is the fastest and safest way to substantiate your genuine purpose.
You will also be required to re-sit your safe handling course. We typically hold this one a month but may hold additional sessions based on demand. If you would like to run the course through us please let us know via the Contact Form.
